Imagine setting aside the demands of your day-to-day life and stepping into a unique community of men that honors caring, listening and celebration—and leaves you with fresh insights and energy for your journey home. This is the opportunity that awaits you at the Jewish Men’s Retreat (JMR), now in its 19th year of bringing together a diverse, intergenerational group of men during the peak foliage season in New England.

JMR’s energetic weekends weave together spirited conversation, large and small group discussions, joyous worship services, text study, music, movement and laughter. At this year’s retreat, our focus will be on “
Creating a Legacy: The Hand We’re Dealt and How We Play It.” We will explore the legacies each of us inherits and the legacies we bestow to the world as we make our way through life. Legacy plays a central role in the stories of Isaac and Ishmael as they wrestle with the actions of their parents and their own struggles to reconcile with each other. Our lives, too, are shaped by the legacy of prior generations and our life experiences.

As we move through the arc of the JMR weekend, each man will have an opportunity to explore this poignant theme in all its complexity and richness. In what ways have legacies from our fathers, mothers and others supported our life’s journey? How have these legacies weighed us down? What is the “measure of a man,” and how can each of us impart a positive legacy to our loved ones and to the world?

Over the years, many men have used the Jewish Men’s Retreat to enrich their relationships with their fathers, sons, friends and congregants by inviting them to attend the retreat. We encourage you to spread the word about the JMR; give yourself and others the gift of experiencing this truly unique weekend.
